John Frusciante

John Frusciante
Red Hot Chili Peppers, solo

Guitars

This is a picture from the Californication tour, but it reflects pretty much his choice of guitars.
Gretsch White Falcon - '55 and '62 Fender Stratocasters - 60's Fender Telecasters

Here's a Les Paul. I believe it's a '69 Gibson Les Paul Custom.

Here's John with a Martin 0-15.

John and his 1950s vintage Gibson ES175.

Here's his '62 Fender Jaguar.

Amplification

John's live setup. Marshall full stacks with stock Celestions. Silver Jubilees and Major (for cleans) heads. That Fender Blackface is used with the Falcon. He also uses a VOX AC30 for solo work and small gigs.

Pedalboard and Effects

This is John's OLD pedalboard, but it'll pretty much get the down-to-earth Peppers' sound. It goes Boss DS-1, Boss DS-2, EHX Big Muff, MXR Phase 90, Ibanez Weeping Demon and Roland Chorus Ensamble.

Here's the Stadium Arcadium pedalboard. Besides the old pedalboard, you now have the EHX English Muff'n, Holy Grail, Big Muff Pi, Electric Mistress, POG Polyphonic Octave Generator, a Line 6 DL4 Delay,
M4 Filter
and DOD 680 Analog Delay. The rest, as in the Moog and MuRF stuff is for the sinthy modulation.

Sources
Here is an article talking about John and the band's recording techniques and some gear.

He seems to like the Electro-Harmonix pedals. Has anyone tried any of them? They look pretty tempting but I've never used one.

Oh and Guitar Geek is great. I found out about it a couple years back.

Well, who doesn't love EHX? After I get my amp and guitar, I'll try to get my hands on a Big Muff.

I used to have a Big Muff, but I didn't like it! It was way too noisy n I hated it! I believe cuz my amp was a Marshall MG15CD, my new amp is a Fender Princeton 650. The problem is my muff is already dead n broken n well...not going to buy one now!

But that's the thing with Muffs, don't use them unless you're on a tube amp. They're already harsh, if you combine it with solid state processing it'll sound bad.

Well thanks a lot for sayin it! I actually found (I say) a replacement for the Muff, is the Boss Overdrive/Distortion pedal. Maybe it doesn't do what the Muff was supposed to do but it had worked really nicely. I highly recommended it!

I'll do my research.

So, Fusion Freak, to lay it out, what's in there? I'm not too sure, and other people might not be too. Help me fill this out -
Washburn signature Idol "Evil Twin" into some kind of volume pedal(?), a wah(?), into a MXR Wylde Overdrive and a Boss Chorus Ensamble into two Marshall JCM800.
